Domaine Lécheneaut's history begins in Nuits-Saint-Georges in the 1950s when Fernand Léchenaut founded the Domaine in Nuits-Saint-Georges. Philippe and Vincent, sons of Fernand, would take over in 1986 focusing on expansion of the original 3ha of vineyards. Now, they exploit 10ha almost all of it in the Cote de Nuits.
Harvest is completed by hand and the use of stems during fermentation varies depending on the vintage. Each wine spends 18 months in barrel. For their 1er Crus, their barrel time is 50% in new wood.
The Lecheneauts own a tiny 12 ouvrée plot in Pruliers with Very stony brown chalky soil at the base of the parcel. Dark brown to reddish brown silt and coarse limestone gravel are found on the local substrate. From this plot they produce less than 300 cases in a normal year. Their Pinot Noir vines have an average approximate age of 42 years.
