Matt Gundlach - General Manager/Wine Director |
Matt has always had a place in the wine business via the restaurant business. Through high school Matt worked in restaurants on the weekends. Enjoying the energy of a full dining room and the creativity of the Chefs he worked with he decided to pursue an opportunity in 2003 at Charlie Trotter’s. It was while there that Matt began to hone his skills with wine. Working alongside the esteemed Sommeliers at Trotters who taught him the basics of food and wine pairing. Those skills would come in handy in 2005 when Chef Homaro Cantu offered him a chance to develop the wine program at Moto Restaurant in Chicago’s Meatpacking district. For the next 8 ½ years Matt shaped Moto’s wine program while simultaneously serving as the General Manager. Under his guidance the restaurant earned recognition from Food and Wine Magazine as his wine program was named as “Best Wine Experience in Chicago “ (May 2006). As well as earning exceptional service ratings from AAA, Zagat the restaurant earned its first Michelin Star in 2011. Matt accepted a position at Knightsbridge in November of 2013. He is looking forward to working with Knightsbridge’s outstanding inventory! Please contact Matt directly at mgundlach@knightsbridgewine.biz |
Matthew Fearnbaugh - President |
Matthew’s path to Knightsbridge Wine Shoppe’s President began in the kitchen. Schooled at the Culinary Institute of America in New York he accepted an internship at Charlie Trotter’s where he developed into a valuable member of the kitchen brigade. Working alongside the world’s culinary luminaries helped him develop as a true gourmand. It was while in Chef Trotter’s kitchen that Matthew developed an interest in wine. More specifically, it developed from a very generous diner! One night a guest who was hosting a large table, purchased a 6L of 1983 d’Yquem! What couldn’t be finished by the revelers was shared with the entire staff! It was then that Matthew decided to work more closely with wine and sought out an opportunity at Knightsbridge. He accepted a position at the store in 2004 where he has been since. During his tenure with Knightsbridge, Matthew has traveled tens of thousands of miles visiting major wine producing regions and, of course, stopping off for a few great dinners along the way. When not at the store, you will often times find Matthew with his family, entertaining friends at home with a great bottle of Burgundy or Champagne close by.
