The Cade estate belongs to the PlumpJack family of wineries located in the Napa Valley. Perched high on Howell Mountain the winery makes some of the Napa Valley’s best expressions of Cabernet Sauvignon at some of the valley’s best prices. Unlike many in the valley bottling a Chardonnay to be their white wine wasn’t in the cards because the estate was already planted with Sauvignon Blanc. So having some of that they set out to make the best Sauvignon Blanc they could. Turns out, they were quite successful in the realm. So much so that they needed to find more sources for the wine than could be supplied by their Howell Mountain vineyard. Part of the charm of this wine I think is how it manages to sustain its freshness and brightness, hallmarks of what I think a proper Sauvignon Blanc should show. They do blend in a touch of Semillon and Viognier with Sauvignon Blanc Musque to add weight but only for a little mid palate bump. A further textural component is added with a 5 month period in barrel sur lie.
