Renowned for its expertise in crafting white wines, Venica & Venica stands as a prominent winery in Collio, producing excellent and affordable wines while upholding traditions and honoring its heritage. Positioned on the border between Friuli Venezia Giulia and Slovenia, Venica & Venica's vineyards can be found on numerous hillsides. These hills, each distinguished by varying altitudes and orientations, foster diverse microclimates that intricately contribute to the wines' remarkable complexity.
Encompassing around 40 hectares of vineyards, the majority (approximately 85%) bear white grapes, each possessing distinct characteristics attributed to their specific locations, morphological features, sun exposure, wind patterns, proximity to wooded areas, humidity levels, and incline variations. Each hectare boasts its individual uniqueness, and intriguingly, even a single hill can host multiple microclimates.
Following harvest, the grapes were macerated for a short duration of 4 to 8 hours. Maturation happens on the lees for 6 months, with a portion maturing in large wooden barrels of 20/27 HL and another portion in steel containers. After bottling, the resulting wine displays a varying shade each vintage, with this year presenting an appealingly coppery hue (Pinot Gris/Grigio looks a lot like a red wine grape when ripe afterall). The aromatic profile is marked by freshness and vitality, characterized by a floral bouquet, delicate yellow peach notes, and subtle mineral nuances. On the palate, it offers an embracing texture with discernible fresh and savory sensations, intertwined with recurring fruity impressions and a commendable mineral finish.
