Planted in 1997, the Coquelicot Estate takes its name from the French red poppy flower. Located in unincorporated Los Olivos the estate benefits tremendously from the unique geography of the Santa Ynez Mountains to the south and the San Rafael Mountains to the north. These mountain ranges allow for coastal breezes to flow into the valley and cool off their vineyards. Uniquely, this is the only east-west mountain range on the entire Pacific Coast. That cold air and their location at the valley floor allows cool air from the coast to settle, leading to a longer temperate growing season. There can be swings of 50 degrees between day and night, preserving acidity while capturing the intensity of the sun’s rays.
