A monumental shift in philosophy at Newton Vineyards occurred in 2012. That's when Robert Mann, Winemaker and Director of Newton Vineyards decided that there would be a replanting at their Spring Mountain vineyard. This forced a closer look at their other vineyard sites in Yountville and Mt. Veeder. When the 2014 vintage had concluded and assessments were underway for a final blend it was clear. The best parcels from all three needed to be bottled as single vineyards.
The three share little in common in terms of the style of wine produced. Instead the allow Newton to focus on making wines of precision.
Spring Mountain Vineyard, the spiritual and original home of Newton Vineyards. Here the soils are both sedimentary and volcanic based. It is dedicated exclusively to Bordeaux varieties planted between 500-1,600 feet in elevation. The wines produced here are complex and restrained with wild aromas.

Vibrant aromas of blackcurrants with coffee and dark chocolate follow through to a full body with chewy and rich tannins. Lots of fruit and tannins. Give it time to soften. Better in 2018.
