The Pago del Cielo vineyards are planted high on the plateaus around Valladolid in central Spain. At nearly 3,000 feet above sea level, the elevation spares their vines, some up to 80 years old, the punishment of the brutal heat experienced during the day. Temperature swings between day and night can differ by up to 40°f giving the vines a much needed respite. More importantly for us, it allows a powerful wine (100% Tinto Fino) to remain in balance with refreshing acidities. The wine was aged in both French and American oak barrels.
The Torres Family's history stretches back to the Penedes area over 300 years ago (1557). This project in the Ribera del Duero was the family's first outside of Catalonia (established in 2014).
