Domaine Jadot's vineyard holdings are vast, and winemaker Frédéric Barnier will have something fascinating to say about each parcel, but there's no doubt about it. The Clos de Bèze is one of the portfolio's greatest wines. From very old vines, the Bèze follows vintage and is, to say the least, impactful.
Le Chambertin and Chambertin-Clos de Bèze together form the rectangular block of 28.3 hectares that is the jewel in Gevrey's crown. While Clos de Bèze may be called Chambertin (but not vice versa) this is a rarity. Still, they are such a pair that Jasper Morris describes them together in Inside Burgundy. With subtle differences in slope and levels and types of topsoil, Bèze ever-so-slightly distinguishes itself out of the gate as classy and more delicate with an exceptional perfume.
