I reacted to these words, taken from Puynormond's website, in an arguably frivolous and melodramatic way. Maybe it's the simplicity here, and how perfectly it captures what Puynormond's wine captures in the glass: pure red fruit, violets, and spice. Simple, straightforward, yet a whole lot more, too. Or maybe it's because I just love this wine for its outrageous quality to price ratio. This is one of the best deals in the store!
Situated in the commune of Montagne, between prestigious neighbors Saint-Emilion and Pomerol, Chateau Puynormond overlooks an amphitheater of vines from a clay terrior. The wine is 90% Merlot with Cabernet Franc making up the remainder. Catherine Barat and Philippe Lamarque make up the fourth generation of the Lamarque family, stewards of this chateau since 1923. They continue the tradition of effort creates simplicity, creating wines with flesh and fruit, bolstered with fine structure and floral lift.
