Tony Soter was a fixture in Napa for decades (winemaker at Etude, Araujo, Shafter, Spottswoode, etc), but as a Portland native, Tony's fascination with Pinot Noir eventually brought him back up to Oregon, to the Willamette Valley.
With the sale of Etude, Tony purchased Mineral Springs Ranch, which he describes as a savannah that covers over 200 acres of land in the heart of Oregon's wine country. Only 40 of them are planted, the majority of which (30 acres) are devoted to Pinot Noir. The ranch rests roughly 475 ft in elevation with complex sub-soils under a marine sedimentary base. It has been farmed biodynamically for some time earning official certification in 2016.
Under the Soter Vineyards label, the Mineral Springs Ranch Pinot Noir is their top bottling. The ranch is on what Tony hopes could be a new appellation, the proposed Savannah Ridge AVA. A unique site with over a dozen different sub soils and exposure to the cooling Van Duzer winds
