Thanks to our very nice industry relationships, we are set to receive another very small allocation of the 2015 Biale "Black Chicken" Zinfandel. For those of you new to our offerings you should know this is one of our favorite zinfandels. Unfortunately, it is very hard to get a hold of. When it arrives it moves quickly.
The story for the name of this wine is quite interesting. During prohibition Aldo Biale, who operated a chicken coop at the time-in addition to an under-the-radar winery, would receive phone calls from other Napans placing their grocery order. According to the Biale's website these conversations would go something like this: "Hey Aldo, when you come by on Friday, bring me a couple pounds of walnuts, some fruit and vegetables, two dozen eggs, and a black chicken." As these calls were on what was known as a party line their conversations could be easily eavesdropped on. Black chicken really was a code for "wine." Aldo's delicious zinfandel!
