Benoit Touquette grew up in Lyon, France thinking he would wind up a fighter pilot or an engineer. Needing a source to pay for his graduate school (presumably engineering) he worked for a small time at a mobile wine bottling company. According to Benoit, the passion he witnessed from the winemakers each and everyday was exhilarating. So much so that he decided to pursue a career in winemaking. His first jobs were in Bordeaux but with opportunities limited for him there he would later takes his talents across the pond to the Napa Valley in 2010. He joined Realm initially as a favor to his friend, and Realm founder, Juan Mercado for the 2009 vintage. That favor would develop into a full time job only a year later and Benoit's talents were now in the spotlight.
Realm's "The Bard" is the self described "flagship" wine of the estate. It has been made since 2003 and is always a blend in the Bordeaux style with a majority Cabernet Sauvignon. It's complexity is a testament to winemaker Benoit Touquette's skill at blending multiple outstanding sources together. Beckstoffer To Kalon, Beckstoffer Bourn, Blair, Houyi, Larkmead, Realm SLD Estate, Farella, Orchard and Bettinelli Upper Range are all sources for the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petite Sirah, and Petit Verdot.
