Guillaume Rouget's philosophy and success at his family's estate, Domaine Emmanuel Rouget, is coming through in his inaugural vintage in Beaujolais. Along with partner Frederic Jametton, the wines made at Domaine de Vernus are striking. Like their property in the Cote d'Or the wines are clear, fine, elegant and complex. We cherry picked two examples of old-vine Régnié that stood out to us at a recent tasting.
Like his wines up north in the Cote d'Or, Guillaume has destemmed this Régniés completely and employs next to no new oak. Vergers has an absurdly low 4% worth of new oak applied to the juice of its 65 year old vines. There's clear fruit, depth, complexity, and freshness.
