Vincent Paris began his wine making career in 1997 in Cornas after working a couple vintages with his Uncle, Robert Michel. About 2/3rds of Vincent's production is devoted to Cornas and the star of Vincent's Syrah show is his production dubbed "La Geynale."
The name "La Geynale" represents a combination of the two vineyard sources for this; Genale, and a 20% touch of Reynard. Genale is the a vineyard that Vincent purchased from his uncle. One of the great vineyards in the area, if features very old vine Syrah (planted 1910). Vincent takes this fruit (he allows only four bunches per vine vs. 5-7 usually allowed). Fermentation happens in oak (2/3) and tank with whole clusters used. Aging in oak follows for about 12 months.
James Suckling: 97 Points
Expressive nose of blackberries, cassis, black pepper, smoke and sweet spices. Medium body with finely grained tannins and fresh acidity. Impressive volume on the mid-palate with a grainy texture. Balanced with a restrained power. It’s concentrated and well-rounded. Long and focused finish with peppery notes. A reference for the appellation in this fresher vintage. Best after 2025.
