Vincent Paris, known for his bold wines, entered the winemaking scene with his inaugural vintage in 1997. Despite his critical successes, Vincent exudes humility, while his wines express tremendous character.
Vincent's lineage is deeply rooted in the world of wine, with his uncle being none other than Robert Michel, a highly esteemed grower in Cornas. Initially, Vincent collaborated with his uncle to craft his first two wines. Seeking greater independence, he subsequently secured a facility for vinifying his more recent creations.
He oversees a total of eight hectares of vineyards and produces approximately 2,500 cases annually, with Cornas accounting for 1,600 of them. The majority of his vine holdings were inherited from his grandfather, some of which are an impressive 90 years old. Additionally, Vincent rented and later acquired vineyards from his uncle, including the esteemed "Geynale" plot within the Cornas amphitheatre. These vineyards are strategically scattered across various locations, primarily situated along the southeast-facing slopes of Cornas, with a small plot in Saint Joseph.
The wine, simply labeled "30," derives its name from the steep gradient of the vineyard it originates from. This vineyard is characterized by granitic soils at an elevation of 300 meters. Vincent practices mindful viticulture, limiting each vine to produce just four bunches of grapes, in contrast to the typical five to seven. This practice concentrates the vine's energy and reduces the need for green harvests. During vinification, the wine ferments at low temperatures, with approximately two-thirds aged in oak barrels and the remaining third in tanks for up to 12 months. The annual production of this exceptional wine hovers around a miniscule 1,000 cases.
James Suckling: 96 Points
So expressive and so precise, this is a great modern Cornas. Haunting nose of black forest berries with notes of dry forest floor and wild herbs. Then comes the wonderful combination of restrained richness and youthful freshness on the vertical, medium-bodied palate. And just as the coolness of evening follows the heat of the day, the mineral vibrancy of the finish follows the succulence of the mid-palate. Drink or hold.

Coming from vines lower on the slope, closer to the village, and all destemmed, the 2022 Cornas Granit 30 reveals a vivid purple/plum hue to go with a beautiful bouquet of ripe red, blue, and black fruits that turn more peppery and floral with air. It's clearly the most forward and accessible of the trio here, but it's still classic Cornas and has good acidity, ripe, polished tannins, and a great finish.
Vinous Media: 91-93 Points
The 2022 Cornas Granit 30 was made from fully destemmed grapes. It exhales prominent black fruit aromatics paired with pencil shavings, iodine and an underlying rusticity. Medium- to full-bodied, structured and concentrated, there’s plenty of old-world savoriness in this classic 2022 Cornas.(NG)
