Amélie's portion of Clos Vougeot is a small .3ha plot on the eastern edge of the vineyard right in the middle of the vineyard. Her vines were planted in 1956.
Amélie Berthaut of Domaine Berthaut-Gerbet has been blessed with enviable vineyard holdings throughout the Côte de Nuits through both her parents and through her own contracts. Included in this are some of the most sought-after vineyards in Vosne-Romanée. Within a short time (her first vintage was 2013), Amélie has put her own village on the map and become perhaps the shiniest of the rising stars of Burgundy. While she's been described as new guard, her wines, though contemporary, are as refined and classic as she.
Clos de Vougeot is an imposing and impressive vineyard to see in person. The wall that encircles its 125 acres, and makes it a true clos, was completed in 1336 some 200 years after its founding in the 1100s. Two massive structures, Château du Clos de Vougeot, and Chateau de la Tour look tiny when viewed from the opposite sides of the vineyard. Clos Vougeot’s size is a detriment some would say but, with the winemaking bar being constantly raised, we believe this Grand Cru, the largest in the Cote de Nuits, can be a good source of value. Of course, if it’s here, it is a fine example.
