In great years there may not be a better region than Bordeaux for value driven wines that can age. Château de Pez is one of the best of those 'value' wineries. Despite a history that goes back to the 15th century and its location neighboring the 3rd growth Château Calon-Segur, it is rated as one of nine Cru Bourgeois Excptionnels. Current winemaker Nicolas Glumineau is with the team here and at Chateau Pichon longueville Comtesse de Lalande after working at Chateau Haut-Brion, Chateau Margaux, and Chateau Montrose. So, you know the technical know-how is here. Still despite its quality the price stays reasonable as it is outside the 1855 classification.
Established in the 15th century, Château de Pez stands as one of Bordeaux's oldest estates on the Left Bank and holds the distinction of being the oldest domaine in Saint-Estèphe. Encompassing 104 continuous acres 94 with most of that acreage planted to Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. In this vintage Cabernet Sauvignon makes up 51% and Merlot 43%. Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc each tally 3%.
