Prior to 2013 the owners of Barrat-Masson, Aurélie Masson and her husband, Loïc Barrat, were a part of their local cooperative. A decision in 2010 to make their own wines in an organic way changed their direction. Rehabbing the family's own equipment and facilities they formed their new estate, Champagne Barrat-Masson.
Their Fleur de Craie is made from organic chardonnay vineyards in the Cote de Sezanne near the Aube and Marne. The Fleur de Craie is a wonderfully expressive Brut Nature Champagne (0g/l dosage). It shows the chalky character of the soil with an electric backbone of citrus. Partial fermentation in oak adds a nice richness on the palate without sacrificing any of the wine's verve. Though labeled as a non-vintage, this cuvee has always been from a single vintage. In this case, it's 2017 that makes up the wine. It is one of our favorite Chardonnay based Champages. While supplies last, we have it at an incredible price. Trust us, the quality is here in spades.
