A visit at Domaine Morot is fascinating. Their cellar, built in 1890 is one of the deepest we've experienced in Burgundy. They're perfect for a cool elevage.
Though the family has a history of wine making around Beaune with Maison Morot which dates to 1820. The 'Domaine' was not what it is today until 1984 when Francoise Choppin took over and nixed their negociant business choosing to focus only on domaine owned vineyards. Currently their holdings total 8ha which are mostly in Beaune and the Domaine is run by Geoffrey Choppin de Janvry.
With eight of their terroirs located in Beaune a visit here is a great way to explore the fascinating terroirs of the village. All are excellent of course. Morot has a way of pulling incredible minerality out of this wines. An iron, ferrous quality that carries the cool fruit flavors with their bright acidities. However, one did catch our eye and we'd like to point out the exceptional value that is their Beaune 1er Cru "Bressandes." Their portion of the vineyard is 1.27ha right in the middle of the slope. Here, the vineyard has an intriguing balance between limestone, clay, and loam. It produces a dense, bold red with complex aromatics.
