What began as a casual conversation during a photography shoot in the early 1970s quickly became one of Napa Valley’s most respected family-run wineries. Jack and Dolores Cakebread’s chance offer to buy a Rutherford ranch set the stage for five decades of growth, innovation, and dedication to quality. From the release of their first Chardonnay in 1974 to the expansion into new vineyard sites and the introduction of celebrated wines like Dancing Bear Ranch and Suscol Springs Cabernet, Cakebread Cellars has remained at the forefront of Napa winemaking. Along the way, the winery has embraced sustainability, expanded its hospitality offerings, and maintained its commitment to crafting wines that reflect both place and family heritage.
