The Crozes-Hermitage Cuvée Papillon à Léonie et Lucie is a deeply personal wine from fourth-generation grower Gilles Robin. In 1996, the year he took over the family estate and shifted production from the cooperative to making his own wines, Gilles planted the Syrah vines that would later define this cuvée. By the time the vines were ready in 2001, his first daughter Léonie was born, inspiring the name “Papillon”— so it became a symbolic dedication to his children and a reflection of his vision to craft an approachable, forward style of Syrah rooted in family and tradition.

Sourced from vines planted on an old riverbed in western Crozes-Hermitage, the fruit for Papillon comes from carefully selected plots farmed sustainably with Ecocert-certified organic practices. The vineyard’s gravel and pebble soils over sandy clay yield wines with both freshness and depth. Grapes are hand-harvested, optically sorted, de-stemmed, and fermented with native yeasts before aging eight months in stainless steel. The result is a pure, fruit-driven expression of Syrah that balances elegance, energy, in an unmistakably northern Rhone style.
